The transition that occurs when a child turns 3 can be very challenging for families. This is commonly referred to as the Part C to Part B transition. What actually happens is that a child leaves Early Intervention services (Part C) and moves into school services (Part B). At this time, the documentation changes from the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) to the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The focus shifts from what the family needs to be able to support their child's development to what supports the child needs to be able to learn in the least restrictive environment.
